Champion Mares from Kunigal Stud Farm

Speedy Beauty, dam of champion Derby winner
- Sharan Kumar

One of the top mares to stand at the Kunigal Stud Farm was Speedy Beauty. In the short span that she stood at the farm, the Great Britain bred mare produced high quality performers. First season sire Burden of Proof had a great start to his stud farm career in India when his son Full Speed became the second from the first crop in India to win a Derby. Full Speed (Burden of Proof – Speedy Beauty) won the Gr 1 Kingfisher Mysore Derby and the Gr 2 Bangalore 2000 Guineas to herald the arrival of new sire sensation of the Kunigal Stud Farm.

Full Speed was a versatile horse and was at one time, rated the best miler in the country. He reeled off a number of wins before claiming the Mysore Derby and then winning the Guineas in Bangalore in taking style, beating the likes of Berlioz, since racing in Dubai and Elite Zone, winner of Gr 1 Golconda Derby and Gr 1 Deccan Derby. Though Full Speed was campaigned over
longer trips that were beyond his compass and his sharpness was blunted. Full Sped even had the honour of being invited to race during the Dubai Racing Carnival.

Speedy Beauty who was the dam of Full Speed, raced a few times at three but her contribution was at the paddock. Apart from Full Speed, Speed Beauty also foaled multiple race winners like Space Craft (Tejano), San Carios (Bold Russian). Her two other foals, Soviet Run (Bold Russian) and Arroganto (Tejano) also recorded one win at three. In all, she had five foals in India, which incidentally were all winners. Unfortunately, she did not foal any filly that could have continued her legacy at the stud farm.

Speedy Beauty (GB), b 1989, was by Rousillon out of Rye Tops, by Ille de Bourbon out of Topsy, by Habitat, out of Furioso, by Ballymoss.
